NPM in v12 Beta 4 brings a lot of interesting functionality to try. One of these is also new feature which should in the future replace all search functionality and unify this behaviour. (requests here: Search Enhancements It will also be able to full text search among syslog and traps and create & share filters (rules) as you requested in SNMP Trap & Syslog Rules Overhaul and here Improved Log Aggregation / Correlation / Search
We may read a great article Add “Search for Nodes" element in every Solarwinds Webpages header with ‘hit’ Enter enabled about how to search for specific Orion elements. And I know how you using the Node management page if you want to seek a node by its name quickly. this all will be solved by introducing the new search.
NPM v12 Beta 4 has a new behaviour of search box, try to put there few letters from the name of the node you are looking for:
Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
hit search and you'll be redirected to entirely new result page:
Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
The result is a full text search in current Node, Interface properties in Orion and Syslog. You may use the filter on the left hand side in order to set more filter criteria by clicking (use "add filter property link")
If you like to search exactly for Node name, we've prepare autocomplete functionality which will help you to use right property, try to type "Nod" or "Node." and autocomplete will offer you matching list of Orion entities and properties to search in. Lets try to find all Nodes having "Tok" in its name:
Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
Where final search text looks like this: Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
Then your result will be only Nodes with "tok" in the caption:
Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
You can also search full text in your incoming sys logs.
This is very rare preview but we feel its important to share it with you.
- We are mainly interested in hearing about usability (easy to use, complicated, if something does't behave as expected why it is?)
- Does it find results precisely? does it show false results?
- Is that fast enough? (specially for large environments)
Thank you very much for your feedback, feel free to share it here. More is coming soon.
UPDATE: In the case of NPM 12 Beta 5 OGS - Search functionality has to be installed manually via \ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers and the OGSInstaller.msi
